Your Tennis Mind and Body Connection. One Without the Other Will Lead to Failure!

If you want to reach your potential as an athlete you must actively engage all areas that are essential for attaining a "Winning Mindset." And one of the most important factors that has a direct impact on your mental state is your mind -- body connection.

If you do not look after your body, then you will suffer mentally. If you do not get the required amount of sleep, you will feel lethargic, tired, irritable and slow in your reactions.

If you do not feed your body the right nutrients you will feel sluggish and won't be able to sustain the energy levels to perform throughout an entire match. If you do not allow your mind and body to recover from a gruelling training session or match, then you will suffer from over-training which will negatively impact future performances. By

Tennis is a game of decisions. Throughout an entire match from start to finish you will be faced with constant decisions. Before you even start playing you decide which end to start from, whether you will serve or receive, whether or not you will play from the baseline or serve and volley. All throughout a match you are required to make decisions which will affect the outcome of the game. Some of the decisions you make will be made consciously, but many will be just made through instinct and your unconscious programmed thought patterns. Read entire tennis article >>>>

Promote Tennis
By Rufus Keown

Tennis is in a battle for the hearts and minds of young athletes with so many other leisure activities. In Australia, the sport only really gains exposure for one month a year around the Australian Open and the rest of the year young people hear precious little about the sport. The best young athletes are increasingly being drawn to the various football codes in every country.

So turn your tennis centre or club into a tennis media centre. Paste up posters and rankings; if you have the luxury of a TV in the club house run highlights and instructional footage; post tour updates and latest news on your website and facebook page. Work with other tennis coaches and facilities in your area to create a healthy tennis environment. Our greatest competition is not from other tennis clubs, but from other sports.

The truth is that tennis has some of the biggest international sports stars on the planet; they are great healthy role models; and even better for young people some of them look like cartoon heroes [Rafa Nadal, Gael Moinfils, Serena Williams] or glamorous models [Caroline Wozniaki, Maria Sharapova etc...]. Use these advantages to grow the sport and your coaching business.

Build the Whole Environment
By Rufus Keown

It can be tempting if you have 1 or 2 really fantastic developing players to focus a lot of your coaching efforts into a few players. The problem is that this may lead to your coaching program suffering as a whole.

Why not develop all aspects of your program and create a large pool of strong players and a really enthusiastic group of developing players coming through. One of the characteristics of many high performance athletes is they train and play in a very competitive environment where many players are pushing each other to greater performance levels and young players are hungry to achieve the level of those training above them.

Tennis Coaching in College
By

Are you wanting to be a college tennis coach? Maybe you are already there and seeking some helpful tennis coaching tips and drills. One of my very first tennis coaching jobs was at a college in the USA.

It was a great way to kick start my coaching career but it also required a quick learning curve when it came to being disciplined and implementing leadership skills. When coaching a college tennis team you are taking on the responsibility of managing a lot of different personalities. In order to succeed you will need a variety of tennis drills, fitness drills and tennis management techniques.

It is for this reason that we have an entire department devoted to college tennis coaching. You can find more here >>> http://www.globaltenniscoaching.com/public/department44.cfm

Great Tennis Coaching Reference!

Over the last few years, tennis has evolved into a physical battle. Many times the difference between winning and losing is not so much how you hit the ball, but how well you move and how long you can last. When I am working with a player, I emphasize a foundation based around anaerobic conditioning and correct movement technique.

The GlobalTennisCoaching.com Tennis Fitness and Tennis Drills eBooks are a great reference for coaches and players to find drills and exercises that allow them to reach their physical potential and maximise on-court results.

Mark Wellington, MA. CSCS. PTR Tennis Performance Specialist

Former Fitness Trainer to Maria Sharapova, Daniela Hantuchova and Xavier Malisse
